One of the most interesting places to visit in Lithuania is The Hill of Crosses, located 12 km north of the town Šiauliai.
You can take a private full-day tour to The Hill of Crosses, which is considered to be one of the most famous pilgrimage places in the country and a symbol of freedom and national pride. The site features a hilltop covered with thousands of Christian crosses. The number of crosses on this sacred hill is estimated to exceed 100,000, and they vary in size from very small to serval meters in height. It is customary to bring across along and plant it there as a mark of faith.
After lunch, the day trip to Anyksciai and The Hill of Crosses will continue to the small town of Anyksciai. Your professional guide will accompany you to the most well-recognized landmarks, including the tallest church in Lithuania. You will also get the chance to ride the famous railway tricycle in The Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum in the old complex of Anyksciai Railway Station. Here you can admire Skoda locomotive Kukushka as well as narrow gauge rolling stocks and paraphernalia. Other interesting activities here are to explore stone paintings of the folk artist Stanislovas Petraska, see local craft workers at the ethnographic museum, and visit The Horse Museum to see displays of agricultural tools and transportation from the past.
The red brick Anyksciai Church makes an impressive statement with its twin spires. Don’t miss the chance to try the Treetops Walking Path in the famous Anyksciai Pinewood.
