The 9-hour tour will start from central Salzburg and take you through the Bavarian Mountains on a comfortable coach. You will cross the majestic Untersberg Mountain, which featured in the musical blockbuster of the 1960s, ‘The Sound of Music’.
Enjoy the pristine perfection of the Alpine landscape on your way to Obersalzberg in neighboring Germany. You are headed on the Eagle's Nest tour, which is the mountain retreat of Hitler. Seated in an original brass elevator, you will reach the mountain top to be rewarded with panoramic views all around.
There is a 45-minute scheduled lunch break here and you can pick up some light snacks at one of the restaurants before continuing for the next part of the day, for the Salt Mines tour from Salzburg. Your destination is the 450-year-old salt mine of Obersalzberg. Following the protocol of dressing in original mining wear, you will enter deep into the mountains to learn about the underground world of mining, the history of the mine and interesting tales about it’s functioning back in those days.
The experience includes a sail across a salt lake and a train ride. Back on the surface level, slip into scenic mode with the Bavarian Alps tour. You will visit Konigssee, a glacial lake surrounded by the Bavarian Alps. There will be free time here for you to explore the area. On the way back, there will be a stop at Berchtesgaden town, where you can wander along the streets to get a feel of the place.
