Description
Embark on a pilgrim tour of Siluva, Tytuvenai and The Hill of Crosses. The day starts with a hotel pick-up, after which you will travel to Siluva town, where The Blessed Virgin Mary is believed to have emerged four centuries ago. You will see the Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known to be a great example of late Baroque architecture in Lithuania and famed for its miraculous altar painting.
The tour will also take you to The Chapel of Apparition, where the Marian apparition took place. From here, you will move on to Tytuvėnai's Church of Our Lady of the Angels and Bernardine Monastery complex. This is one of Lithuania's largest and most revered religious architectural examples dating back to the 17th and 18th-centuries. You will see a church, a courtyard with the Holy Steps Chapel, and the stone wall of a two-story monastery as part of your full-day guided tour.
The last destination on this Lithuania tour is The Hill of Crosses, which is considered to be one of the most famous pilgrimage places in the country and a symbol of freedom and national pride. The site features a hilltop covered with thousands of Christian crosses. The number of crosses on this sacred hill is estimated to exceed 100,000, and they vary in size from very small to a serval meter in height. It is customary to bring a cross along and plant it there as a mark of faith.
